Individual Psychotherapy & Counselling
Supporting you in your personal and spiritual development
WELCOME, I'M JANE DEMPSEY
I offer a confidential, safe and supportive space for exploring personal issues, development and life choices
I am an experienced and qualified psychotherapist and supervisor, and a Registered Member of the BACP. I offer a confidential, safe and supportive space for exploring personal issues, development and life choices.
There may be a variety of reasons which lead you to seek support — a sense of isolation or depression, panic or confusion. You may be in crisis or at a crossroads, feeling anxious or 'stuck'. You may be seeking a more spiritual path or working on deepening personal development.
"In my experience, the very strength we need in order to be strong and joyful resides within us."
As a therapist, through working together, I will support you in recognising and listening to this inner voice as you begin to access personal choices and power, and to increasingly find meaning in the life you are creating.
I offer individual counselling and psychotherapy in Dorset, in person and by telephone or online. Please contact me for more information, to enquire about supervision or to arrange an appointment.

A therapy focused on you
My therapeutic background is Person Centered. This means my work is focused on you. It also means that I accept that you as an individual have the power and freedom to change.
I work with a Transpersonal Psychological approach (from 'trans-' meaning 'beyond'), recognising the spirituality or highest potential within us, investigating and reflecting this through our shared work.
And my work is Integrative; I use a mixture of teachings, creativity, mindfulness and meditation tools where appropriate. Within the context of exploring your experience together, communications and personal expressions through art, music and stories can act as a release and alchemy for pain, grief and other life emotions and experiences.

Session length
Appointments are 50 minutes long, usually at a regular time each week. We explore how you would like to work, time commitment and number of sessions at the start.
Fees
My fees are £55 per session. I do sometimes have low-cost spaces available — please ask if cost is a concern.
Confidentiality
Everything you bring to our sessions is completely confidential. My work is supervised and I follow the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
An integrative approach
I use a mixture of teachings, creativity, mindfulness and meditation tools where appropriate. Personal expressions through art, music and stories can act as a release for pain, grief and other life emotions.

About me
Jane Dempsey
Originally trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, I worked as a professional violinist in the music & education field for many years. During this time, I continued to nurture a deep interest in our collective and individual journeys, and the relationship between ourselves and nature, spirit, mythology, creativity.
Exploring spiritual paths, I spent time in Nepal and India, travelling and on retreat, and attended UK teachings with renowned Vietnamese Buddhist teachers Thich Nhat Hanh, HH the Dalai Lama, Ajahn Sumedho and others.
Experience
I offer one-to-one therapy sessions, short and longer term, and facilitate meditation groups and self development workshops. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you have — I'd like to hear from you.
